11. Chloe Makes Music - Island Of Snakes

Chloe Makes Music uit San Francisco combineert tongbrekende teksten met weldadige en gelaagde harmonieën. Op haar debuutalbum The Puppeteer zingt singer-songwriter Chloe Roth over herinneringen, verlies, de natuur en kunst. Haar liedjes zijn doordrenkt van beelden uit haar jeugd aan de Californische kust en het tropische Hawaï en variëren van hertalingen van Griekse mythes tot nummers over wilde vogels. Roth bezit daarnaast over een goed ontwikkeld gevoel voor taal. Ze kiest haar woorden nauwgezet, waardoor haar liedjes nog het meest op gezongen gedichten lijken.

The song ‘Island of Snakes’ is dedicated to a friend who passed away. It is the story of three friends and their travels through Bosnia. It explores how people grow through shared  experiences, the importance of telling people what they mean to you before it is too late, the heartbreak of losing a friend, and how those left living come together in the face of death. The unity between the figures in this painting, the way they lean into one another as they watch a loved one depart, reflects the messages of the song.
