Casper Adrien - Could I Keep

Musical Audio Tour 'Highlights from the Groninger Museum collection'

Casper Adrien is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter whose roots lie in the Dutch region De Veluwe, who now resides in Utrecht. His disarmingly sincere songs lie in wait of the interested listener. His songs mirror his honest attempt to confront himself and the world he lives in. While he in no way avoids the major issues, he also pays minor themes their due. His music is best described as folk influenced by pop, blues and soul. His songs are easy on the ear, yet multifaceted. Text and emotion take centre stage.

Inspiration:
Anselm Kiefer
Wege der Weltweisheit:
die Hermannsschlacht, 1979
oil/print on canvas, 290 x 500 cm

I chose the work of art Wege der Weltweisheit: die Hermannsschlacht by Anselm Kiefer because it so clearly reveals the beauty of juxtaposing opposites. It’s very impressive yet agonizing as well. A work of art where the artist wishes to distance himself from the insanity of Nazi Germany has a wonderful theme that certainly deserves a song.
