Asian Decorative Arts - Studio Job

Asian decorative arts together with new work by Studio Job

25 October 2006 to 17 June 2007

In the Starck Pavilion the Groninger Museum has on exhibit work by Studio Job (Job Smeets and Nynke Tynagel) juxtaposed with a selection from the Groninger Museum’s Asian decorative arts collection. The combination of Studio Job’s incomparable contemporary design together with Chinese and Japanese porcelain, lacquerware, and objects carved from wood and ivory is delightful.

There is work on show by Studio Job from the 2003 Oxidized collection, as well as more recent work from the Biscuit and Still Life series, and from Paper Collection (2006). The Paper Collection expresses Studio Job’s endless fascination with working with paper and cardboard. The Groninger Museum has a cabinet, a mirror, a sideboard, and an impressive chandelier on show, wrought from these materials.

The porcelain objects from the Biscuit (2005) and Still Life (2004-2006) series were produced by the Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum factory.
