Chantalla Pleiter is an artist from Groningen. She graduated from the Minerva Art Academy with a degree in scenography and audiovisual media. Whatever she's making, Chantalla loves to move. Her work is located at the intersection of art, theatre, science and technology. Visitors have to be able to touch the art, smell it, feel it, hear it, or experience it as a whole. Working with programmers, Chantalla explores new technologies. She uses them to create live experiences in the form of interactive installations and VR and mixed-media experiences. Her work is also indirectly an ongoing investigation of what technology is capable of doing, and is doing, to human beings and our perspective on the world.
The Orkest Ontdekker (Orchestra Explorer) is an interactive installation that lets you discover the orchestra through play. It’s a big artwork you can climb on, touch and explore. As you do, you get to know the magical world of classical music and the symphony orchestra. Chantalla built the Orkest Ontdekker in cooperation with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra. The visitor takes a musician’s place in the orchestra. Each cube on the stage represents a group of instruments. It lights up and starts to play when a visitor sits on it. Each instrument plays its own part of a single piece of music. You can also stand in the conductor’s position and encourage other visitors to take the place of an instrument. If there are a lot of visitors, you can bring the piece of music to life in all its glory. Or move from seat to seat and discover each group of instruments and its sound separately.
