Groninger Museum to open to the public again on 1 June

From 1 June 2020 visitors will be able to enjoy art in the Groninger Museum again. Director Andreas Blühm: “We are very happy to be allowed to open the Groninger Museum and to be able to welcome visitors again.” The exhibitions Mondo Mendini and Willem Kolvoort – Posters for Vera have been extended and the exhibition about 75 years of liberation in Groningen, which has not been open to the public yet, will debut on 1 June.

Design, photography and history

The exhibition Mondo Mendini, about the work and sources of inspiration of lead architect Alessandro Mendini, was to close on 5 May but fortunately the museum is able to extend it. The posters Willem Kolvoort designed for live music club Vera will be on display longer than was initially planned as well. The exhibition What will the neighbours say?, featuring an exciting selection from the modern and contemporary photography collection, had only been on show for a month, so this too will remain on view for some time. The exhibition about 75 years of liberation in Groningen was to open on the day after the lockdown started. The museum is delighted to be able to properly present it at last.

A safe and hospitable visit

The museum is currently developing a plan to be able to welcome visitors safely and hospitably, following the guidelines of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) and the Dutch Museums Association. Tickets will therefore only be sold online and visitors will have to follow set routes in the museum. Exhibition about 75 years of liberation in Groningen on display online

Since 5 May the exhibition En tóch staat de Martini – 75 Years of Liberation in Groningen has been on show online. This 360-degrees tour contains not only a walk through the exhibition, but films, interviews and stories about the war and the liberation too. View the exhibition here.
