About the Exhibition
This exhibition celebrates Groninger Museum's acquisition of Keramikos 2, a collaborative work comprising more than 300 ceramic dinnerware pieces and accompanying tablecloths by Matthew Lutz-Kinoy & Natsuko Uchino. Having served food and drinks during travelling dinner parties, they now live another life in the Starck pavilion.
The title references Ursula K. Le Guin's The Carrier Bag Theory of Fiction, which proposes the carrier bag instead of the hunting spear, as a foundational human tool: an object for gathering and carrying.
Bringing together Keramikos 2 with further sets of their pottery and selected Groninger Museum's collection pieces, Lutz-Kinoy & Uchino are interested in the power of gathering together. Their selection creates associative connections with their own work, reshuffling historical relationships and generating unexpected encounters between materials, techniques and cultural histories.
