Line-up in Academie Minerva (Praediniussingel)
Pending renovations and a completely new permanent exhibition, Museum aan de A is currently closed to the public. Especially for this 10th Groningen Museum Night, Museum aan de A is therefore hosting events at Academie Minerva on Praediniussingel. There will be two exhibitions and talks, music, workshops, and shows. Right on your doorstep, you can board or disembark from two historic boats which, featuring special performances on board, sail back and forth between Minerva and the Groninger Museum.
Exhibition: BE HERE, BE YOU, BELONG
Minerva Art Academy presents a two-part exhibition during Museumnacht. In the Koepelzaal, the work of Sarianne E. Breuker takes centre stage, entering into dialogue with artists Bernadet ten Hove, Loes Faber, Noor Nuyten, Susanne Luurs and Suzan Drummen. The exhibition shows how artistic and personal relationships take shape over time, with connections between artists, generations, and between memory and imagination at its core. In the downstairs space, an open Salon features work by Minerva students and alumni on presence, authenticity and connection with others—a place to be yourself. Throughout the evening, the Salon grows into a polyphonic collection of images and stories.

Usva presents: Workshop Henna
Make Museum Night last even longer with a souvenir in the form of a henna tattoo. Join our workshop at a time that suits you. All the materials are provided; you choose the design yourself. You don’t need a steady hand – we also provide stencils. With the help of student assistants from Usva, you’ll receive a souvenir that will last for one to three weeks.

Talk by Loes Faber: 'Ik ben mijn muze'
In this lecture Loes Faber (illustrator, tutor and artist) will be taking you through the process of making a graphic novel about quirky, strong-minded, and unconventional female visual artists, spanning from the 1500s to the present day. She will share the creative process behind her first book ‘Ik ben mijn muze’ and introduce some of the remarkable women who inspired it. She’ll be talking about how their artistic practices evolved, how they portrayed themselves, and what their lives can teach us about resilience and autonomy. Loes will also be talking about how their stories and artworks have influenced her own artistic practice and shaped the graphic novel itself. And she might also need your help!

Talk by Hannah Zondervan: Meet Elisabeth Neurdenburg
During her studies, Hannah Zondervan became involved in Project Neurdenburg, a research project focusing on Elisabeth Neurdenburg: the first female professor of art history in Groningen and in the Netherlands. What began as a search for a lost portrait ended with a surprising discovery: it turned out that there had never been an official portrait of Neurdenburg. At the same time, during her research, she came across a wide range of portrayals of her as a person. Whilst a more recent source depicted her as ‘not exactly a role model for the women’s cause’, her research actually revealed a more nuanced picture of a passionate woman. As part of the Vrouw+ series, Hannah will take you through the research behind Project Neurdenburg in this lecture.

Jaimy Hendriks
During the school musical in Year 8, Jaimy Hindriks wore her jumper inside out and backwards, and forgot her lines. These days, life still feels inside out and backwards, but she has now taken control of her own words. Jaimy Hindriks writes poetry that makes you laugh just as much as it makes you think. She combines stand-up comedy with sharp observations and a healthy dose of wonder. In her show A Gherkin Travels by Train, she sets out to find beauty in being a bit of a klutz. She pays tribute to the peculiar human being and explores our tendency to want to understand life, whilst it is precisely the act of not understanding that is beautiful.

Language crash course: Gronings (NL & EN)
Do you want to be able to get through the night in Groningen? Singer/teacher Olaf Vos gives two crash courses in Gronings. Olaf teaches you Groningse words and phrases that are essential in the nightlife of Groningen. Going out, dating and erotica are discussed. The course is given twice: once in Dutch – Gronings and once in English – Gronings. Olaf is also known as a member of the bands Bond tegen Harries and VanDeStraat.

DJ Boes is a familiar face in Groningen's nightlife scene. He spins at venues such as Wolter Wolthers, RGB, De Prins and Warhol. “I’ve got 24 years’ worth of pent-up anger. That’s because I’m a kind person. But apparently it needs to come out. There’s plenty to be angry about, but I can’t wait any longer. The first man I come across is going to get it, no matter what he does.” I’m Not Angry is an honest and personal performance that tackles the theme of anger in a humorous way. Does anger serve a purpose? Perhaps you want to get really angry but can’t manage it, and perhaps, deep down, you just want to be liked.

Like a Barbapapa of poetry, she pops up everywhere: as part of her ‘Stadsdichter Snuffelstage’ project, she tags along with people from Groningen in all sorts of jobs, from refuse collectors to bridge keepers. In this way, she gathers stories that show that poetry isn’t just found in collections, but also on the streets, on bridges and in refuse lorries.

Duo Dielee
Duo Dielee is a duo featuring guitar and double bass. Their repertoire consists of original compositions, as well as jazz, country, and rockabilly songs from the 1940s and 1950s. They perform both instrumental pieces and songs with vocals. The combination of fingerstyle guitar and a swinging double bass creates an authentic sound from the 1940s and 1950s.

Usva presents: Chris Lubbinge
Chris started playing the bagpipes at the age of fifteen. At the time, he had no idea where it would lead him; he began taking part in competitions and, before he knew it, he was playing with the Manorcunningham Pipe Band in Ireland. As well as his activities with the pipe band, Chris also plays the Scottish smallpipes – another type of bagpipe – to take a break from the competition rules and do his own thing. He performs a repertoire of traditional Scottish and Irish music, featuring his own arrangements, supplemented by new melodies, some of which have even been composed by friends

Duo Clahrlin
In 2024, harpist Ingel Baaijens and fiddler Hilke Broodtaerts decided to form a folk band after years of playing together on the folk circuit in the northern Netherlands. Ingel (from Zeeland) and Hilke (from Flanders) are experienced musicians who found common ground musically in their love of Celtic music. Let yourself be carried away by the mystical atmospheres, rousing rhythms, and delicate sounds they create as a duo with their harp and fiddle.

Yas Jeanine
Yas Jeanine's style is not easy to describe. The language she uses is mostly English, but sometimes Dutch or Spanish. She is influenced by pop, reggae, soul and indie music. You can find some of all these styles in her music. Absolutely recognizable is her unique voice that is both warm and raw. She sings full of devotion and fire, but also subdued and subtle. After many musical (and European!) wanderings, playing in Vera, Eurosonic and gigs with Blues Juice and ska band Knight Susan, she comes back to herself.

The four-piece mobile brass band Koper&Co plays music from all corners of the globe in its own unique style: cool and swinging, cheerful and sunny, moving and compelling.
