Fragile goods. A tribute to Minke A. de Visser (1898 – 1966)
Former curator Minke A. de Visser developed the Groninger Museum’s Asian ceramics collection into one of the four most extensive collections in the Netherlands. De Visser started working for the Groninger Museum as an intern in 1921 and became curator in 1937. She was constantly searching for Chinese and Japanese export ceramics, made for the Dutch market, to add to the museum’s collection and paid for these out of her own pocket if necessary. Fragile Goods contained ceramics from this collection and was an homage to her unbridled efforts.
