The Rolling Stones – Unzipped now open at the Groninger Museum

The long-awaited exhibition The Rolling Stones – Unzipped, delivered by DHL, has opened in Groningen. The first week is already sold out. New tickets will go on sale every Saturday for the following week at rollingstonesgroningen.nl.

Online opening
Unzipped was officially opened online by Mick Jagger himself on Thursday 19 November. Leo Blokhuis interviewed the Rolling Stones frontman for viewers and presented some exhibition highlights with museum director Andreas Blühm. Well-known Dutch fans Klaas Knot, Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, Humberto Tan and Lucy Woesthoff talked about their special bond with the band and its music. About The Rolling Stones – Unzipped
The Rolling Stones – Unzipped features more than 400 original objects from the band’s personal archive. Along with instruments and stage designs, it contains rare audio fragments and video footage, personal diaries, iconic costumes, posters, album covers and even a reconstruction of the band’s studio and modest flat in Edith Grove in London. Supplemented by unique video material and interactive technology, the exhibition provides an exceptionally detailed inside look at 50 years of Rolling Stones history and the careers of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood. It explores the musical legacy that saw the Rolling Stones grow from a 1960s blues band into inspirational cultural icons.

The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the band’s unique story, ending with an iconic experience: a Stones concert delivered in multi-dimensional Dolby Atmos Sound, facilitated by the Professional Monitor Company.

New in the exhibition
The new version of this travelling exhibition, which has its European premiere in Groningen, includes a few new features. One is a film of the band’s first Dutch concert, played in 1964 at the Kurhaus in Scheveningen. Another is the spectacular final room of the exhibition, where visitors get to experience the Stones “live” on stage in Cuba in 2016.

Catalogue
The catalogue Unzipped, published by Xander Uitgevers, accompanies the exhibition. Full of stunning imagery, the book is a visual spectacle in itself. It also contains new interviews with the Rolling Stones. Unzipped is on sale in the Groninger Museum shop and at various bookstores.

More Stones in Groningen
Visitors who come to Groningen for the Stones can also enjoy two related exhibitions. The Groninger Museum is displaying seven large colour photographs of the Stones taken by the local photographer Andy Zuidema at their 2017 Arnhem concert.
