Groninger Museum welcomes 100.000th visitor CHIHULY

Tuesday 26 March 2019

The Groninger Museum welcomed its 100,000th visitor to the CHIHULY exhibition today. Erica Kelderman (70), from Haren, the Netherlands, was the lucky winner. She received a copy of the exhibition catalogue and a bouquet of flowers from museum director Andreas Blühm. The show of unique glass artworks by the US artist Dale Chihuly will remain open through 5 May 2019.

Kelderman, who visited the exhibition together with her friend Marita Ruyter (68), from Assen, the Netherlands, said: "I visited the exhibition before and it was such a great experience I wanted to show it to my friend too."

CHIHULY

The exhibition has enjoyed a warm reception since it opened in Groningen in December 2018. Visitors have greeted it with enthusiasm, and reviewers have praised the glass sculptures on display. CHIHULY was curated specially for the Groninger Museum and is the biggest European museum show of the artist’s work in 20 years.

Catalogue

A richly illustrated exhibition catalogue is on sale in the museum shop. It devotes extensive attention to all the installations in the show, including the Grand Stairwell Installation (2018), designed specially for the Groninger Museum.

Audio tour

A free musical audio tour accompanies the exhibition. As they take in the art, visitors can listen to classical pieces played by the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Dale Chihuly’s favourite ’60s pop songs, the grunge sound of the ’90s that made Seattle famous, or 21st-century alternative tunes from the US city.

Open on public and school holidays

The museum will be open during normal hours on Good Friday (19 April), Easter Sunday and Monday (21 and 22 April), and King’s Day (Saturday 27 April). It will also be open on Monday 29 April in advance of the May school holidays.
